Parents demand more flexible working

A recent survey showed that 83% of dads and 86% of mums want to work more flexibly.

This "Homefront" survey was conducted by two of Britain's leading parenting groups.   Mumsnet and DadInfo.   The Equality Commission sponsored the survey as part of their Working Better Consultation.

So how can employers make good use of this information in the current climate?  Many of your employees may be parents and would welcome the opportunity to reduce or change their hours.  Instead of looking at this as a 'problem' for the business, maybe it's an 'opportunity'.   Look at the possibility of a more flexible workforce and how by offering changes in hours, reductions in hours, you could possibly benefit the business and cut your costs.

Before you consider redundancy think more broadly and see if there are other opportunities rather than lose skilled or experienced staff who you may need later on.

If you are considering redundancies please remember there are legal obligations you must comply with.  To avoid ending up in a costly Tribunal isn't it worth taking advice?
